Unvented Cylinder, Hot Water Tank or Water Heater?
People call these all sorts of names – a hot water tank, a pressurised tank, a hot water boiler, a water heater or just “the cylinder”. If it’s a tank in a cupboard that gives you strong hot water pressure, with a pipe running to a small funnel (a tundish) and then outside, it’s almost certainly an unvented cylinder. These must only be repaired by a G3-qualified engineer – like us.
Problems We Fix on All Makes
- No hot water
- Water dripping from the tundish or overflow pipe
- Leaks and low pressure
- Immersion heater and Economy 7 problems

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find out what make my hot water cylinder is?
Look for a label or sticker on the front of the cylinder, usually near the top or on the white or blue insulation. A photo sent to us on WhatsApp is the easiest way – we can normally identify it straight away.
Do you repair old hot water cylinders?
Yes. We repair older cylinders where parts are still available, and we’ll tell you honestly if a repair isn’t worth it.
Is a hot water tank the same as an unvented cylinder?
Not always. An older hot water tank fed from a cold water tank in the loft is a vented cylinder. If yours gives mains-pressure hot water and has a tundish, it’s unvented. We repair both.
Can you repair a water heater as well?
Yes. We repair unvented water heaters and electric hot water systems, including immersion heaters and Economy 7 timers.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
No. We charge a fixed hourly rate from the time we arrive (a diagnostic charge applies) and give a fully itemised invoice.
